High school counselors and non-profit college and career advisers – join us for another year of learning, sharing resources, and connecting with one another at PDI workshops! This year, St. Louis Graduates is pleased to co-host PDI with the Missouri College Access Network (MOCAN).  All workshops are FREE and open to colleagues across Missouri and southern Illinois thanks to support from the Norman J. Stupp Foundation, Commerce Bank trustee, and Missouri Scholarship & Loan FoundationFinancial aid workshops are held in partnership with MASFAP, the Missouri Association of Student Financial Aid Personnel. Career pathways workshops are held in partnership with STEMSTL.

Engaging Students and Families Post-Pandemic 
Join 2018 Missouri High School Counselor of the Year Jennifer Kline of Festus High School as she shares strategies to engage students and families at a challenging time. We’ll also launch the new PDI Portal, a central online platform to share tools, resources and information, and connect with colleagues!

This training will provide an overview of the main types of financial aid and the senior year financial aid timeline, while incorporating a student-centered approach to the terminology and requirements. Registration is directly through uAspire.

Lots of changes are happening with the FAFSA and verification! We’ll share the latest updates so you can best advise students. In the second hour, we’ll do a virtual walkthrough of the FAFSA.

Supporting Students with the CSS Profile Part 1: Webinar with uAspire
This is the first of a two-part webinar.
Over 400 colleges and universities require the CSS Profile, a financial aid application that is incredibly complex and distinctly different from the FAFSA. In this training, we will walk through the many sections of the CSS Profile, sharing tips for answering tricky questions and providing practice with student scenarios and case studies. We will also discuss potential follow-up steps, including the Noncustodial CSS Profile, waiver request process, and IDOC.Registration is directly through uAspire.

Advising Students on High-Demand Career Pathways
This is planned as an in-person event that may pivot online.
Connect with colleagues and make new connections at the STEMSTL Annual Gathering where educators, businesses, and community partners come together to learn about the most in-demand career pathways.This full-day event will include a counselor-oriented session on integrating career advising into postsecondary planning, plus deeper dives into high-demand career clusters, including:

  • Advanced business services – finance, insurance, information technology
  • Biomedical and health services
  • Advanced manufacturing and production
  • Aerospace, automotive, and defense
  • Transportation and logistics

Supporting Undocumented Students with Postsecondary Planning
In Missouri, undocumented students are not eligible for state scholarships and those attending public institutions are required to pay higher tuition rates than their peers who graduate from the same Missouri high schools. We are pleased to welcome back Felipe Martinez, Senior Student Advisor at The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis, who will provide an overview of the unique challenges faced by undocumented students and how counselors can support them with postsecondary plans.Spring 2022 workshops will be announced later this fall.

This year, all PDI materials and recordings will be accessed through the new PDI Portal launching in September! Think of it as your one-stop-shop for tools, resources and up-to-date information. The Portal includes a directory to connect with colleagues, and a forum for posing questions and sharing information. Video recordings will be accessible through the Portal for a limited time. The PDI Portal is password-protected and available to registered participants of PDI workshops.
